I’m Hannah, and this is The Good News (Two). I’m glad you’re here! After what has been arguably the most exciting, stressful and amazing year of my life, I decided it was time to start documenting some of it. More than that, though, I want to start writing for a purpose. I have always loved writing, whether it was fictional stories in elementary school or newsworthy pieces for college courses and projects, it’s something I have always enjoyed. The name and inspiration for this blog came from someone I admired very much, and I’m hoping to embody the vision she had for The (Original) Good News in my own writing. I envision this blog as a place for me to share a bit about what’s going on in my life as a twenty-something Iowa native, Wyoming transplant, newlywed, puppy mamma and PR newbie, as well as a space to share some of the Good News I see in the world. I’m excited to start this adventure, so let’s start with a little introduction.
For me, the past year has been full of Good News.
August 2014: I got engaged to my high school sweetheart. Drew and I met when he crashed my 5th birthday party, and the rest is history. After almost six years of dating, he popped the question and wedding planning commenced.
December 2014: Graduation from Iowa State University. For the sake of my relationship, I converted from an Iowa Hawkeyes fan to a (Loyal, Forever, True) Cyclone fan and alumna (sorry about that, Dad).
December 2014: We became puppy parents to our German Shorthaired Pointer, Hank. Cue, complete chaos. He’s absolutely crazy, but we do love him.January-May 2015: New jobs, new house, four wedding showers, bachelor/bachelorette parties, barn renovation (more on that later) and wedding planning. This was the definition of crazytown, but somehow I made it through. June 2015: We got married! It really was the best day ever, and I would go back and do it all over in exactly the same way in a heartbeat.
July 2015: Honeymoon in Jamaica and a move to Cheyenne, Wyoming. Also, we bought our first house. Fair warning: this blog may turn into a (wannabe) home improvement blog from time to time with design decisions based on my expertise as an HGTV addict.
Now: Now.. we’re settling down. Finally. Life today is looking forward to weekends free to do the things we love. It is navigating the challenges of living 771 miles from the only place I’ve ever called home. It is regular Facetime conversations with family and friends back home. It’s job hunting and learning about this new city we live in. It is meeting new people and finding out where we might fit in. It’s planning for the future and living in the present. It’s excitement for this new chapter in my life and simultaneously missing how things were a year ago. And it’s good. The Good News is that things are good, life is happening and change is exciting.
